I’m an Odia font designer based in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, and the person behind everything on OdiaFont — the fonts, the free collection, the guides on the blog, and the WhatsApp replies.
How I got into Odia typography
Like most designers in Odisha, I started by making things for other people — thumbnails for local YouTubers, banners for shops, wedding cards during the season rush. And on every single project I hit the same wall: the Odia fonts available were either broken, ugly, or legally questionable. The turning point was realising that I was spending more time fighting fonts than designing with them. So I started fixing, drawing and organising them myself — first for my own work, then for friends, and eventually as the collection this site is built on.
What I believe about the script
The Odia script’s round, unbroken forms are not a design accident — they are centuries of history, shaped by palm-leaf manuscripts where straight cuts would split the leaf. When I digitise or design a font, my job is to give that heritage a modern wardrobe, not a new face. Every matra in the right place, every conjunct drawn with care, every weight balanced so the script feels at home on a phone screen as it did on a palm leaf. ଆମ ଲିପି, ଆମ ଗରବ.
